Extremely Rare One-Gallon Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jug, probably Baltimore, MD, 18th century, ovoid jug with narrow base and heavily-tooled spout, the surface dipped in an iron-oxide slip and covered in a salt glaze. The jug's highly unusual, early-period form indicates it was made during the 18th century, and is likely the earliest iron-decorated example of Mid-Atlantic stoneware that we have ever offered. Provenance: Found in St. Mary's County, MD. Restored handle. A large reglued section to shoulder area with tight lines emanating from it. In-the-firing flaws. A few base chips.
