One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Stamped "P. HERRMANN," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with flared collar, decorated on the front with a two-stemmed clover plant motif and around the collar with brushed clovers. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with Peter Hermmann one-and-a-half-gallon maker's mark to right edge of decoration. Provenance: Descended in the family of Baltimore, MD potter, Peter Herrmann. A hairline across underside, extending 4 1/2" up reverse. A thin 3 1/4" crack and a 1 1/8" line from rim on left side of pitcher. Some wear to surface. A few small in-the-firing contact marks to surface.
