Shenandoah Valley Redware Flowerpot with Copper and Manganese Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va", circa 1875, tapered form with coggled rim and attached, crimped saucer, its slip-coated surface heavily-decorated on the front and reverse with a swag-and-hanging floral motif, executed in a lead-and-copper glaze and manganese slip. Body impressed with Solomon Bell maker's mark. Strong condition for a form that is typically found with moderate to significant damage. Some light overall wear. An approximately 3 1/2" diagonal line from rim. Heavy calcium residue to base of pot and saucer rim. Additional calcium residue to rim of pot. H 7 3/4".
