Rare Shenandoah Valley Miniature Glazed Redware Pitcher, probably Adam Kern, Winchester, VA or Thurmont, MD, circa 1880-1885, diminutive, ovoid pitcher, the surface dipped in a cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks and flecks of manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Pitcher shows distinctive Kern-type glazing found on his work partnering with Anthony Bacher in Winchester, VA, as well as pieces he produced in Thurmont, MD. Exceptional size with attractive glaze scheme. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing kiln scar on underside, which includes some adhered clay residue from the firing. H 2 7/8".
