Twelve-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "R.T. WILLIAMS. / NEW GENEVA. PA," circa 1880, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated at the shoulder with freehand stripes and two abstract foliate motifs. Base of jar with R.T. Williams maker's stenciling, incorporating stenciled flourishes. Base with large freehand "12," flanked by dashes and underscored by a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition with a few chips to right handle, a chip to reverse end of left handle, some yellowish Albany slip residue to reverse, and some grease staining to surface. H 22".
