Twenty-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / STAR POTTERY. / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, tapered rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with Hamilton & Jones / Star Pottery maker's stenciling surrounding star, rose, and floral motifs. Additional floral and rose motifs surrounded the stenciled words. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. A name written in black marker on the underside. Stenciled "20" flanked by stenciled leaves at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A long crack extending from shoulder to base on reverse, with a few short lines extending off from it. H 25".
