Extremely Rare Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Cherries Decoration, Stenciled "STAR POTTERY", Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a cluster of three cherries hanging from a leafy stem, below the stenciled maker's mark, "STAR POTTERY.". Freehand cobalt stripe below rim. This jar is believed to be one of only two "STAR POTTERY" examples known with a stenciled cherries motif. One small in-the-firing contact mark to the left and right sides of the jar. Wear to top of rim. Minor wear to inner wax sealer rim. A very shallow 7/8" base chip. H 7".
