Very Rare Set of Five Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Canisters with Applied Grapes Decoration, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA, circa 1975, each of cylindrical form with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied grape cluster, vine, and leaf designs on the front and reverse. Each surface covered in a mottled-brown alkaline with green streaking throughout. Grapes coated in a dark gunmetal glaze, leaves with green glaze, and vines with brown glaze. Each jar includes its original lid with brown-and-green, alkaline-glazed surface and gunmetal-glazed knob. Each jar incised on underside with Lanier Meaders signature. Individually, each jar is considered scarce. Collectively, they represent a rare and noteworthy work by this master ceramic folk artist. Provenance: A recently-surfaced set. All in excellent condition. Smallest jar with a shallow, 5/16" chip to knob of lid. Most of the tiny chip has been reglued to the knob. Second smallest jar with an in-the-firing contact mark to knob of lid and a minor in-the-firing lime ping to edge of lid. H (of shortest, including lid) 6 1/4" ; H (of tallest, including lid) 7 1/4".
