Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, attributed to Captain James Morgan, Cheesequake. NJ, circa 1775, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a group of conjoined, slip-trailed watch springs. Cobalt band to shoulder and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Surface lines to handles and rim. A few faint surface lines to shoulder on exterior, not visible on interior. Heavy chipping to base. Two small, in-the-firing surface chips to one side. A few surface lines to interior, not visible on exterior.
