Rare Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape-and-Floral Decoration, attributed to the J.H. Miller, Brandenburg, KY, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and extruded open handles, decorated with a brushed, two-stemmed floral motif above a drape composed of a series of cobalt dashes. Impressed with distinctive three-gallon capacity mark below rim. The horizontally-oriented open handles on this example are highly unusual for this maker. A 1 7/8" rim chip. Hairlines in underside, one of which extends approximately 5" up base of jar. Jar is slightly-raised on underside, keeping it from sitting completely flat.
