Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, attributed to the Kemple Pottery, Ringoes, NJ, circa third quarter 18th century, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, tall spout, and semi-rounded rim molding, decorated with a large slip-trailed "watch spring" motif on the front and emanating from the base of the handle. An additional cobalt accent appears at the upper handle terminal and on the front of the spout. Relatively few examples of intact stoneware from this important Colonial period pottery have survived. Base chips. Two in-the-firing contact marks to surface, typical of pieces of this age and origin.
