Rare Large-Sized Redware Figural Pipe, possibly Southern origin, 19th century, the bowl molded in the form of a stylized head with large eyes and pointed nose and chin; surface covered in a mottled lead glaze with orange and olive coloration to areas. The inability to link this pipe to any major 19th century producer of the form, coupled with the pipe's discovery in Richmond, VA, suggest it was made at a small, possibly Southern, manufacturer. Provenance: Found in Richmond, VA. Pipe is broken at the stem. Shallow chipping to rim of bowl. L 3" ; H 2 1/4".
