Exceptional Large-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, attributed to C.B. Masten at the Auman Pottery, Seagrove, NC, circa 1928-1936, masterfully-potted, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, narrow opening, and applied lug handles featuring ornamental scalloping to the terminals. Surface dipped in cobalt slip and covered in a clear lead glaze. A beautifully formed and glazed example in a rare and imposing size, measuring approximately eight gallons. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in California. A minor rim chip and tiny rim nicks. A firing crack to underside. H 21".
