Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cherries Motif, Stenciled "Greensboro", PA origin, circa 1865-1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a cluster of cherries hanging from a leafy stem, below the town name, Greensboro. Freehand cobalt stripe below rim. Desirable decoration and form. Wear and numerous small chips encompassing edge of inner wax sealer rim. Some small nicks to inner edge of outer rim. Some very minor surface wear. H 6 7/8".
