Unusual One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Strasburg, VA origin, probably Philip Byers, circa 1840, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with four brushed and slip-trailed designs of a fan-shaped flower. This jar is related in its form and use of a slip cup to the work of Bell family associate, Philip Byers. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark to one side. Jar is slightly out-of-round. A 4 1/4" hairline from rim.
