Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Coggled Decoration, Stamped "PAUL: CUSHMANS", Albany, NY, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and narrow, flaring mouth, coggled around the midsection with the large signature, "PAUL: CUSHMANS". Additional coggled geometric decoration to upper shoulder. Exterior surface covered in a salt glaze. Albany slip coating to interior. A 3/4" rim chip, possibly in-the-firing. In-the-firing contact marks to shoulder. An approximately 11" crack from rim, extending through an in-the-firing ping below maker's mark. Base chips. Some minor flakes near base on reverse. Surface crazing to left side of jar.
