Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Marbled Manganese Splotch Decoration, probably Ohio, mid 19th century, cylindrical jar with footed base, rounded shoulder, and flared rim, decorated with profuse purplish-brown manganese daubs over a slip-coated ground and covered in salt glaze. A striking decorative treatment with marbled runs to the manganese. Provenance: Ex-David Wheatcroft. Excellent condition with a chip to exterior of rim and a long hairline to underside, continuing 2 3/4" up base.
