Scarce Slip-Decorated Redware Apothecary Jar with Lid, Inscribed "58", attributed to Nathaniel Seymour, East Hartford, CT, late 18th or early 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and slightly-flared rim, the front inscribed in yellow slip with the number, "58", the surface covered in a lead glaze over mottled olive and orange ground. Includes fitting redware lid with daubed manganese decoration under a clear lead glaze. Provenance: Ex-Michael Whittemore; Ex-Lewis Scranton. Excellent condition with light wear to rim and surface. Lid with two edge chips and minor wear to knob. H (excluding lid) 8 1/8".
