Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HARRISBURG PA", attributed to John Young & Co., Harrisburg, PA, circa 1856-1858, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing four blossoms emanating from well-detailed leaves at the base. Design is executed in striking, thickly-applied trails of cobalt. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. The jug's cylindrical form, color, and style of decoration lead to a firm attribution to the short-lived Harrisburg, PA pottery of John Young & Co. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a short line in spout to right of handle (probably in-the-firing) and some faint crazing to shoulder (also probably in-the-firing).
