Rare Tintype of a Gentleman Holding a Baltimore Stoneware Pitcher, circa 1870, portrait photograph of a seated man with hat, pipe in mouth, and painted nautical scene background, holding a stoneware pitcher atop his leg. The cobalt decoration on the pitcher indicates it was made in Baltimore, MD, circa 1870. Relatively few examples of 19th century cobalt-decorated stoneware can be found in American photography of the period. A clipped loss to two corners and minor surface wear. Dimensions: 3 1/4" x 2 1/4".
