Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Figure of a Frog, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, hand-modeled figure of a seated frog with incised mouth and impressed eyes, the surface decorated throughout with cobalt highlights. Two different sizes of impressed circles were used to create the eyes, giving this frog the unusual appearance of having eyelids. Provenance: A recently-surfaced example, which descended in the family of Cornwall Kirkpatrick. This frog was likely applied as part of a larger piece, and is missing sections of all four legs. There is additionally a small piece of adhered clay to one eye and extremely minor mouth wear. L 2 3/4".
