Exceptional Five-Gallon Glazed Redware Churn, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, semi-ovoid churn with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and collar, the surface covered in a lead glaze over a colorful pale-green ground with orange spotting. Appealing lighter streaks of coloration run vertically throughout the glaze. Outstanding color, form, size, and condition. Provenance: From a long-term private collection of Galena, IL redware consigned to this auction. Small chips to interior of rim. One small chip to interior of rim. Numerous small chips to inner rim for lid. Glazed surface survives in remarkable, essentially as-made condition. H 17 1/2".
