Rare and Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Decoration, possibly William Pecker, Merrimacport, MA, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, the shoulder decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a fish. Interior with reddish-brown iron-oxide slip coating. Desirable size and decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A long, sealed diagonal crack, extending from right side of shoulder on front, onto reverse, and descending onto left side of jug's front. Spout chips. A shallow chip to underside at edge. Two other minor base chips. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark to front shoulder area. H 10 3/4".
