Unusual One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Inscribed "G Y", Ohio origin, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and semi-squared rim molding, the front decorated with a brushed stylized plant motif. Left side of pitcher decorated with the large brushed-cobalt initials, "G Y". Right side with abstract spot decorations. Collar decorated with a series of spots at its base, two stripes flanking the spout, and a cobalt highlight around the rim. Heavy spotted cobalt decoration to handle. Folky form and decoration. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. Rim chips and a chip to left side of spout, where it meets the pitcher's rim. Two minor base nicks.
