Very Rare Spoutless Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Cobalt Fruit and Floral Motifs, Inscribed "A.D.", Ohio origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tall collar, formed without a pouring spout, the collar decorated with the large brushed cobalt letters, "A.D.", flanked by apple motifs. Body of pitcher decorated with a large hanging leaf, flanked by a smaller leaf and cherries. Left and right sides of pitcher and area below handle are decorated with an additional apple motif. Body of pitcher further decorated with short cobalt swags throughout. Handle decorated with heavily-brushed cobalt. Exceptional form with strong decoration. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. Two sections of handle reglued. A reglued 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" wedge descending from rim, with two additional tight lines extending from it. A thin 9 1/2" crack from rim on left side of pitcher. H 12 3/4".
