Exceptional Large-Sized Tanware Flowerpot with Profuse Albany Slip Decoration and Ring Handles, Greensboro or New Geneva, PA origin, circa 1885, ovoid form with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and attached saucer, with shoulder featuring applied loops and free-swinging ring handles. Flowerpot lavishly-decorated in Albany slip with a sweeping fuchsia vine design. Collar decorated with stylized flower blossoms between freehand stripes. Base with freehand stripe. Albany slip stripe decorated to applied loops and rings. Exceptional size, form, decoration, and condition. The finest tanware flowerpot that we have ever offered. Due to the utilitarian nature and delicate construction of the handles, tanware flowerpots of this style are typically found with moderate to significant damage. This example, however, survives in rarely-seen, essentially as-made condition, with both loops and handles intact. H 9 1/2".
