Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt-and-Manganese Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, ovoid pitcher with tooled collar, decorated on the front with a flowering plant bearing two fan-shaped blossoms. Additionally decorated on each side with a double-stemmed floral motif and a single-stemmed floral motif. Decorated on the collar with four horizontal flowers. Brushed slip highlights to handle terminals. The slip on this pitcher was composed of cobalt mixed with manganese, visible as heavy, reddish-brown flecking throughout the blue. The employment of two-colored slip decoration can be seen in earlier decades of the Remmey family's production in New York and Baltimore. Desirable size and decoration. A restored spout chip. Three restored rim chips. Three small restored base chips. H 8 3/4".
