Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical form with footed base, semi-squared rim, ribbed lug handles, and circular bunghole. Front decorated with three tulips emanating from the bunghole. Reverse decorated with two tulips. Shoulder decorated on the front and reverse with a wavy cobalt stripe. Cobalt highlights surrounding bunghole. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. A top-to-bottom crack on left side of cooler, extending from rim through handle. A 1 1/2" chip to shoulder on reverse with thin cracks emanating from it. A 2" base chip and a 3/4" base chip. Tight cracks to underside, one of which extends onto base area of reverse.
