Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Bulb Pot, probably William K. Eby, Conestogo, Ontario, Canada, circa 1875, baluster-form pot with footed base, tooled shoulder, and flared collar, the shoulder fashioned with five carved openings for bulbs. Original drain hole in underside. Surface covered in a light, orangish-tan slip, profusely-decorated with spattered manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Includes original flared saucer with footed base and matching glaze. The distinctive glaze on this vessel indicates it was likely made by William K. Eby, who was born in Pennsylvania and trained in the Pennsylvania-German potting tradition. In 1857, he established a small pottery in the community of Conestogo, located in the Waterloo region of Ontario, which operated until 1907. Exceptional form with striking color. A 2 1/4" x 1 1/2" reglued piece at rim, including an adjacent 3/4" rim chip and two tiny flecks of clay missing along crack line. This damage includes a 3 1/4" X-shaped hairline descending from it. An additional shallow 5/8" rim chip. A 3" loss to rim of saucer. An approximately 1 1/4" chip to exterior of rim of saucer. Some glaze flakes to saucer. Two small base chips. H (including saucer) 10".
