Unusual Glazed Redware Figure of a Dog, Pennsylvania origin, circa 1840-1885, molded and hand-modeled figure of a seated boxer on oval base with applied bell collar, pierced bow on reverse, impressed locket, incised and impressed details to face, and incised details to paws and chest. Base with additional impressed design of a diamond within an oval. Lead-glazed surface with yellowish-brown coloration and iron flecking throughout. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which recently surfaced in a New York State collection. Hollow interior and underside. Chips to one ear. Chips to one bell. Some wear to muzzle. Minor base wear. H 5 7/8".
