Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, attributed to Captain James Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ, circa 1780, ovoid jar with footed base, open loop handles, and elaborate incised and cobalt-highlighted banding to shoulder. Front, reverse, and areas under each handle are decorated with a scrolled watch spring motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. Significant restoration to surface. Two additional tight cracks from rim on one side. Heavy chipping to base. One handle broken into three pieces and reglued.
