Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Inscribed "A.B", attributed to Nicholas van Wickle, Herbertsville, NJ origin, circa 1830, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, squared spout, and ribbed handle, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a branch. Incised about with the cobalt-highlighted initials, "A.B". Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The distinctive style of the bird decoration on this jug leads to a firm attribution to Nicholas van Wickle of Herbertsville, NJ. Spotted surface anamolies and crazing. A 3/8" glazed over stone ping near base on front. Very tight surfaces lines emanating from base. A 7/8" unglazed lime ping to spout. A tiny nick to handle.
