Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, Stamped "CHANDLER MAKer", Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with slightly-flared rim and large arched tab handles, the surface covered in a celadon-colored alkaline glaze and decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed drape motif in iron slip. Front additionally decorated with a script iron-slip "C". Areas under each handle decorated with a looping line design in iron slip. Professional restoration to most of right handle. An inverted 4 1/2" Y-shaped line descending from rim on interior only, approximately 2" of which is visible on exterior, probably in-the-firing. A faint 1" line from rim, probably in-the-firing. Some in-the-firing surface crazing to glaze.
