Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "PRUDEN & OLCOTT, / 185 DUANE ST. N.Y.", circa 1865-1871, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a flowering plant. Partial cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Unusual form, made at the Pruden Pottery in Elizabeth, NJ to be marketed through his New York City salesroom. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Some restoration to collar area on front (not affecting decoration) and inner rim for lid. Additional restoration to reverse and underside. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse.
