One-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Floral Decoration, attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower with detailed blossom. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A small piece of in-the-firing clay adhered to underside. A 2" chip to side of rim and few tiny rim nicks. A minor base nick. An in-the-firing contact mark to one side.
