Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied extruded handles, decorated with a flowering vine design extending from the underside of the left handle across the jar's front. Freehand cobalt stripe decoration above and below floral decoration. Base with large freehand "3" with flower blossom. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/8" chip to one handle and some minor wear to opposite end of same handle. A bloated spot near base on front. Some light wear to surface. Reverse with a small piece of adhered clay to underside at edge, beside a small in-the-firing base chip.
