Fine Eight-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, probably Beaver County, circa 1865, semi-ovoid churn with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with two large slip-trailed stems, conjoined by a bow at base, bearing boldly-brushed flowers and leaves, applied over slip-coated clay. Midsection with slip-trailed "8" underscored by stripes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional size, decoration, and color. Very nice condition with chips to inner rim for lid and two in-the-firing lines at base, measuring 4" and 2". H 23 7/8".
