Extremely Rare Cobalt-Decorated Rustic Stoneware Cooler with Frog Handles and Lid, Stamped "HART BRO'S / FULTON, N.Y.", late 19th century, wheel-thrown, cylindrical cooler with heavily-tooled rim, incised bark-like texture, and applied and cobalt-highlighted knots. Sides with large, molded-and-cobalt-highlighted handles in the form of frogs with impressed circular eyes. Square bunghole with impressed and cobalt-highlighted screw head embellishments. Additional original hole at base on reverse. Front stenciled "No. 3" in cobalt. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Paired with a salt-glazed lid with Rockingham-glazed top, embossed "HART BRO'S. / FULTON N.Y. / 4", which fits, but is slightly small for the cooler. One frog handle entirely restored, with cracks to restoration. Some chips to applied knots. A faint 2 1/2" surface line to shoulder, not visible on interior. Lid with a 3" crack from edge, short hairlines from edge, three chips to knob, and other minor chips. H (of cooler without lid) 17 3/8".
