Slip-Decorated Redware Charger, Inscribed "Cate", attributed to Asa E. Smith, Norwalk, CT, second or early third quarter 19th century, with coggled edge, the interior decorated in yellow slip with the large script name, "Cate". Unusual name for a Norwalk plate. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term Wilmington, DE collection. Several rim chips. Some haze from use to interior. Diameter 11 7/8".
