Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & CO. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1850, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and tooled, angled rim molding, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a daisy and two small buds emanating from a leafy stem. Slip-trailed wavy line decoration to spout. Light cobalt accent to maker's mark. A rare form for this maker, featuring crisp, bold slip-trailing in the Stetzenmeyer style. A Y-shaped crack on underside, one part of which continues up reverse to base of collar, the other two parts continuing onto base area of pitcher's front. A 6 1/2" crack on left side of pitcher's front. Spout chips. A thin 3 1/2" crack from rim on right side of pitcher.
