Manganese-Decorated Redware Jar with Rope Handles, attributed to David Mandeville, Circleville, NY, circa 1830, finely-potted, ovoid jar with footed base, combed embellishments to body, flared rim, and applied rope handles; decorated around the body with lightly-applied, spiraled manganese brushwork over dark-green clay with orange spotting, the entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Elegant form with good color. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor at auction in 1996. Filled base chips. A filled 5/8" chip to one handle. Wear around top of rim. A small rim chip. Surface flakes to underside. H 7 1/2".
