Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Samuel Frayser, Richmond or Henrico County, VA, circa 1820, large-sized, highly-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and large tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed flower featuring a circular blossom. Brushed cobalt highlights along edges of handles. Appealing bulbous form and large size. Rim chips. One handle with a 1 3/4" chip and a small chip. Opposite handle with a small chip. Several cracks to body emanating from a network of tight cracks on underside.
