Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Incised Floral Decoration, CT origin, possibly Daniel Goodale, Hartford, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and footed base, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flowering plant emanating from a stylized ground, modeled after Manhattan, NY motifs. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Appealing and artistic decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A very large in-the-firing loss to base, measuring 3 1/4" x 1 1/4". Two smaller in-the-firing losses to base, measuring 1 1/2" and 1 1/4". A few other minor base chips.
