Fine Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Wash Pitcher, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid pitcher with footed base, raised spout, and applied, ornamental handle with raised spurs, the surface dipped in cream-colored slip, decorated with heavy splashed copper and manganese, and coated in a clear lead glaze. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 2" glazed-over chip to foot on reverse, created prior to firing. A reglued 1" chip to foot. Glaze wear and a few additional small, shallow chips to foot. Minor spout wear. Glazed surface of pitcher survives in otherwise excellent condition, retaining a brilliant luster, with only minor rim wear and a 1/4" glaze flake to body. H 10 7/8".
