One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to John P. Schermerhorn, Richmond, VA, circa 1817-1837, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed cobalt number 1 with graduated underscore and S-shaped flourish. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable one-gallon size. Four large rim chips, the largest measuring 2". A flake to underside at bottom edge. A minor glazed-over base chip. A tiny base nick.
