Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON / Greensboro. PA.", William "Leet" Hamilton, Greensboro, PA, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with combed midsection, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an undulating vine between two freehand stripes, above a large freehand "4" flanked by vertical wavy stripes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. Restoration to base, touching some edges of decoration. Restoration to rim on reverse. Chips to bottom edge, primarily visible on underside. A small chip to interior of rim. A small handle chip. H 14 1/2".
