Three Brown Brothers, Huntington, Long Island Stoneware Crock s with Cobalt Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1863-1905, all of cylindrical form with various brushed or slip-trailed floral or foliate motifs; a one-gallon example, stamped "BROWN BROS / HUNTINGTON. L.I"; a one-and-a-half-gallon example, stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I."; and a one-and-a-half-gallon example, stamped "BROWN BROTHERS, / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.". Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. One-gallon crock with a thin 3" crack from rim, a hairline to underside, rim chips, two iron pings to interior, and some exfoliation to the Albany slip on the interior base. One-and-a-half-gallon crock with slip-trailed design has a large area of restoration to reverse and underside and some light exfoliation to front. Other one-and-a-half-gallon crock with significant restoration, some of which touches the cobalt.
