Three Brown Brothers, Huntington, Long Island Stoneware Crocks with Cobalt Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1870-1905, all of cylindrical form, a three-gallon example with stenciled rose motif, stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I."; a two-gallon example with crossed floral motif and "1880" date, stamped "BROWN BROTHERS, / HUNTINGTON, / L.I."; and a four-gallon example with slip-trailed foliate motif, stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.". Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Three-gallon crock with significant restoration, some of which is beginning to peel off. Two-gallon crock with some light exfoliation to front at base. Four-gallon crock with significant restoration to rim on reverse, a hairline to shoulder area on reverse, some staining, and three in-the-firing pings to front.
