Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, attributed to the Grier Pottery, Chester County, PA, circa 1860-1880, a half-gallon cylindrical jar with tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated around the shoulder with an alternating large and small swag motif; paired with a three-gallon jar with brushed floral decoration on the front and reverse, as well as cobalt highlights to the handle terminals and a wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Half-gallon jar in excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor in-the-firing surface chip near base. Three-gallon jar with cracks in underside, which continue onto base area, as well as a rim chip.
