Fine Anna Pottery Stoneware Pig Flask with Incised Railroad Map, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, Albany-slip-glazed flask in the form of a pig with hole at rear, anatomically correct underside, and incised details to hooves and face, including the unusual addition of teeth to the mouth. Inscribed on one side "Latest and most Reliable R.R. & River Guide / with a little good old Bourbon in a hogs". Remainder of pig incised with a railroad map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: St. Louis the future Capital, Miss River, Grand Tower, Murphysboro, Jonesboro, C & St L.R.R., O & M.R.R., Alton, Springfield, Bloomington, iC.R.R., C.B i.C.R.R., Carbondale, Centralia, Odin, Vincens, Mounds, Tunnel Hill, Cairo The, Anna Jug City, Cincinnati the ancient Porkopolis, and Chicago the Corn Crib of the World. A crisply-incised example with easily-readable inscriptions and landmarks. Loss to one ear. Chip to back of one rear leg, possibly in-the-firing. Otherwise excellent condition. L 7 3/4".
